Mike's Ice Cream (or Sip Cafe) in Nashville

Mikes-001Mike's Ice Cream in Downtown Nashville is great, but the parking is horrible. We found that Mike also has a coffee shop in East Nashville (Inglewood) called Sip Cafe, and they happen to most of the ice cream flavors from the downtown locations. All that really matters to us is that they have the red velvet cake ice cream. My son says the "super hero" flavor ice cream is good, but I don't know. I have never had any need or desire to try anything other than the red velvet, it really is that good.

The Green Wagon - East Nashville

The Green Wagon in East Nashville is a store dedicated to promoting sustainable living, and providing the products and services that are needed to do so. We began using cloth diapers with our second son, and living in a more environmentally friendly way has become a major goal in our house. So when we moved in down the street from an eco-friendly store last month we had to check it out. Little did we know what the Green Wagon was really all about.green_wagon-012
Johnny and Tara take their store and its role in the community very seriously. Last Friday, they hosted a screening of the documentary "Vanishing of the Bees", and had local beekeepers on site to answer questions about the importance of the honey bee. Also, every Wednesday, a portion of their sales go toward a local non-profit that supports sustainability. Not to mention that if you ask for advice about composting or cloth diapering, they will drop everything to get you the info you need. This all sounds kind of heavy, but don't fear, they also invited a local brewery to have samples at the movie screening and their events always seem to turn into informational parties.

In the store they carry a huge variety of products. All of which meet their strict standards of being 100% made in the USA and 100% sustainable (also, 70% of products are made in TN, wow!). The filling station is an area of the store where you can refill plastic bottles from their bulk containers of sustainable products for around 15 cents an ounce.

They carry everything you would need for cleaning, but they also carry a ton of cool toys, cosmetics, clothing, and even organic chicken feed. Definitely make the time to check the store out and chat about what they have going on.
